A Briefing Note for Elected Members

 

What’s the purpose of this briefing and who is it for?

The Improvement Service has developed an Elected Members Briefing Series to help elected members keep pace with key issues affecting local government.

Using information gathered from a range of Centre for Local Economic Strategies documents and informed by discussion via a Scottish Local Authorities Economic Development working group, this briefing sets out:

  • Concepts of community wealth building and why it matters

  • What community wealth building might mean for elected members

  • What good practice might look like

  • Key questions for local authorities to consider

About the authors

The Improvement Service is the national improvement organisation for local government in Scotland, helping councils and their partners to improve the health, quality of life and opportunities of all people in the geographic area, through community leadership, strong local governance and the delivery of high quality, efficient local services.

Centre for Local Economic Strategies is the national organisation for local economies, developing progressive economics and merging theory into practice to delivery economies for all, build community wealth and deepen democracy.

The Scottish Local Authorities Economic Development group is a network of senior officials from economic development teams across all 32 Scottish local authorities, with wide-ranging interests, all directed towards supporting economic development through investment and employment in  local areas.
